Many shows were rescheduled as a result of the pandemic. However, with the return of some semblance of normality, these long-awaited dates are starting to be fulfilled. And tonight, guitar legend Albert Lee can make his eagerly anticipated return to the ARC in Stockton.
Having spent 60 years on the road, Lee has worked with some of the biggest names in the music business including The Everly Brothers, Eric Clapton and The Cricketts, to name but a few. Despite being a Grammy Award-winning artist, Albert Lee has no heirs and graces. He casually strolls on stage at 8pm on the dot with no fanfare, accompanied by his three-piece backing band and grasping his red signature Music Man guitar.
The world-famous guitarist has an extensive back catalogue of material to choose from. Subsequently, during his two sets, this evening’s carefully picked song-list perfectly represents the artist’s life in music as well as a whole lot more. Highlights include a performance of Rodney Crowell’s ‘Song For The Life’ and a foot-stomping rendition of ‘Luxury Liner’, which he recorded with country legend Emmylou Harris in 1976.
Albert Lee’s set seamlessly traverses the roots music spectrum and features tracks made famous by the likes of Delbert McClinton – ‘Two Step Too’, Carl Perkins – ‘Restless’, and John Stewart via ‘Runaway Train’. Although the artist jokes regarding the latter that it’s not the same chap who appears on Comedy Central.
The gifted guitarist’s renowned fingerpicking style, tone and virtuoso playing is a joy to behold all night long. At 77 years old, Albert Lee is still going strong and showing no signs of slowing down.
