Bill Bailey has visited Newcastle many times now in his career but his next time in ‘the toon’ will be something a little bit special.
The comedian will be appearing in performance at Virgin Money Unity Arena, one of the first attempts at bringing performing life back to a post-COVID society.
The project is the brainchild of local promoters SSD Concerts who have curated a series of live music and comedy shows in Newcastle in a purposely-designed outdoor venue that allows performances from bands, musicians and comedians to still take place whilst adhering to social distancing etiquette.
Audience members are given their own designated area at the site of Newcastle Racecourse with access to a shared bar and toilet facilities. It has been heralded as a step forward in trying to regain aspects of our previous lives while still being cautious in our current post-pandemic world.
Bailey is well known for arena shows where his surreal views on life have left audiences in hysterics for years now – and you never know quite what to expect from the comedian and performer. He often mixes his comedy with musical pieces that show he’s not just your average comedian; one minute he’s lampooning Chris de Burge, the next he’s performing apocalyptic rave versions of the CNN News theme or performing Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ on horns (the squeaky variety, not the brass section).
You can catch Bill Bailey at the Virgin Money Unity Arena on the 1st and 2nd of September.
