Dubliner Catherine Bohart, as you may know, is a queer comedian, actor and writer, now living in London. One might not have expected a former law student and daughter of a devout Catholic deacon to pursue a career in comedy, but there you have it.
Before Bohart emerged into the raucous world of stand-up comedy, she was involved in public debate and was judged the top speaker in Europe at the European Universities Debating Championships in 2011. It would seem she’s also pretty good at being funny in front of an audience, so Bohart took the plunge and, in 2014, started performing stand-up. Her first-ever show was at the long-running open-mic venue Cavendish Arms, on the aptly named Comedy Virgins night.
Bohart’s razor-sharp wit, hilarious observations and outrageous storytelling make for an irresistible experience. It is perhaps little wonder that she has made a name for herself in comedy and entertainment, with memorable appearances on 8 Out of 10 Cats, Comedy Central UK’s Roast Battle, The Mash Report and her own televised comedy special, Immaculate.
The multi-talented Bohart is also a trusted wordsmith in the comedy-writing world, having penned material for acclaimed BBC staples including The Now Show, The News Quiz, Newsjack and Frankie Boyle’s New World Order.
Be sure to catch Bohart’s latest live comedy show, ‘Borrowing Trouble’ – a rib-tickling romp of anecdotes and gags involving ingrained generational anxiety, childhood, daily life and love.
