Rising comedy star Dave Elliott brings his latest show, ‘Obsessed’, to the afternoon slot at The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle on Saturday 22nd August.
The Northern Irish comedian is fitting the tour around episodes of his popular Sly Guy Podcast, alongside an increasingly busy career in acting and screenwriting. In ‘Obsessed’, Elliott turns his attention to the everyday topics that people claim to be obsessed with, arguing that, unlike most, he genuinely is consumed by them. As the show’s description explains, he “dives head first into the things he’s irrationally obsessed with – the everyday annoyances, strange habits, petty grudges, and ridiculous details that no normal person should care this much about…but he absolutely does!”
On paper, this premise may sound familiar. The minutiae of everyday life have long provided rich material for observational stand-up, and with good reason. There will always be humour to be found in the mundane, particularly when examined through a comedian’s unique perspective. Elliott, however, brings his own distinctive edge. His comedy is renowned for its uncompromising honesty and razor-sharp delivery, transforming seemingly insignificant frustrations into laugh-out-loud moments.
Relatability is another of Elliott’s greatest strengths. His ability to connect with an audience quickly creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere, giving him the freedom to deliver his trademark wit with precision and confidence. It’s a combination that has earned him a growing reputation on the comedy circuit and one that is perfectly suited to an intimate venue such as The Stand, where every punchline has room to land.
Tickets, priced at £20.00 in advance, are available at thestand.co.uk.
