German and comedy are not two things that you would necessarily put together but Henning Wehn has demonstrated the funny and mischievous side to his nation with such skill and likeability that he has won over millions of viewers on hit TV panel shows 8 Out Of 10 Cats, QI, Have I Got News For You and Would I Lie To You.
His illustrious stand-up career actually began in the fairly unbelievable context of Henning’s employment in the marketing department of Wycombe Wanders Football Club and it took him all the way to London’s West End.
Henning is brilliant at utilising the stereotypes of his German heritage to maximum effect alongside thought-provoking and brilliantly-observed comedy relating to identity and immigration.
Henning Wehn’s new show entitled ‘Get On With It’ continues his journey into the puzzling world of everything that he experiences, from Brexit to obscure prejudices. He claims to simply be in the UK because of his: “lack of transferable skills and unwillingness to change” and as always Henning’s core comedy weapon is his view of his often unfamiliar surroundings.
This is the seventh UK tour for a man who is becoming as much a part of UK culture as he so often, ironically, claims not to be.
There can be no doubt that these shows are an unmissable journey from the outright daft to the amusingly shocking.
Henning Wehn performs’ Get On With It’ at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Friday 6th December.
Tickets, priced at £21.50 in advance, are available from middlesbroughtownhall.co.uk.
