Heading to Barnard Castle this month for an eye test? Don’t worry, it won’t be me delivering the jokes. Instead, you’ll be in the exceptionally capable hands of Mrs Smith, who returns with her new show, ‘1, 2, 3, Eyes on Me!’, centred around what your teacher was really thinking back at school.
Having already taken Facebook by storm with her thought-provoking (and perhaps long-suffering) take on modern life as a primary school teacher, Mrs Smith brings her latest tour to The Witham in Barnard Castle. This is just one stop on a nationwide run that looks set to propel her even further into the spotlight. ‘1, 2, 3, Eyes on Me!’ follows her sell-out 2023 show, which debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe.
With a mix of laughter and nostalgia guaranteed, comparisons could easily be drawn to Peter Kay – a comedian with the rare ability to hold up a mirror to the audience, making it feel as though she has known them their entire lives. It taps into a shared experience we have all had, both collectively and individually, and few things are more universal than school life.
Sometimes, we all just need a good laugh and the chance to unwind. This event is strictly 18+, which feels fitting given the subject matter – and, let’s be honest, younger audiences will have plenty of time to enjoy it when they are older.
Tickets, priced at £18.00 in advance, are available at thewitham.org.uk.
