Ahoy matey! Calling all pirate lovers out there: The Word in South Shields has an exciting online show which will teach you everything you need to know about pirates.
Entitled ‘Shiver Me Timbers’, the event was originally created as a physical exhibition but it is now available to view online – and it’s perfect viewing for all you Scallywags.
Sponsored by Port of Tyne, the exhibition will take you on a journey through the centuries to explore piracy. Replicas of famous pirate costumes, such as Long John Silver and Captain Hook, to name just a few, are on display for you to feast your eyes upon.
Fans of Captain Jack Sparrow have not been forgotten either as you will learn how the character was actually brought to life, along with the famous Captain Pugwash, showing some of the original cardboard artwork pieces.
There is also a short film that explains more about life on board a ship, including an activities area for you to expand your creative flair by drawing a pirate map – or you can even draw yourself as a captain of a pirate ship. There are plenty of pirate-themed games to keep you entertained too.
A free audio tour is available to access too and it will talk you through all of the sections of the exhibition, bringing the exhibition to life.
There is also an opportunity to view a gallery of images of the original exhibition, designed and built by North East design agency, Sheridan Design.
