A stage adaption of Franz Kafka’s story of a misfit trying to adapt to the busy world around them will be performed in Yarm this month.
The original novella focuses on character Gregor Samsa as he awakens one morning to find himself having transformed into a monstrous insect. After his shocking transformation, he begins to figure out what makes him human – but is it already too late?
In his new form, Gregor grows more distant from the person that he once was as his humanity begins slipping away.
Metamorphosis is a classic tale of alienation that questions the aspects of life that conspire to isolate us and the parts of being human that hold us together. This modern retelling is sure to bring new aspects into the fray as much has changed since the book’s original publication in 1915. This story is still relevant as ever though, as loneliness is very much still pervasive, despite the advancements that the subsequent years have seen.
