Award-winning Tees Valley theatre maker Scott Turnbull is set to return to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for a month-long run where audiences can expect a theatrical experience unlike any other and may even leave with a coveted Chufty Badge.
Winner of Best Performance at Newcastle Fringe and described by The List as “delightfully bizarre with Vic and Bob levels of nonsense”, Surreally Good blends live illustration, storytelling and absurd comedy to create a uniquely entertaining and deeply personal theatrical experience.
Written, devised and performed by Stockton-based Scott Turnbull, the show introduces audiences to the finest “Edutainment Officer” in the business. A leading expert in overhead projection animation, lo-fi storytelling and a proud descendant of the legendary Turnbull Family Edutainment Programme, Scott takes audiences on an illustrated journey through a world where creativity, corporate expectations and personal grief collide.
Through the lens of a charming yet unreliable narrator, Surreally Good explores loss, artistic identity and the struggle to maintain individuality within rigid systems, all while delivering the humour, warmth and surreal imagination that have become Scott’s trademark.
Following a successful debut run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2025, the production returns to Edinburgh’s renowned Summerhall venue throughout August.
Jameela Khan, producer at ARC Stockton Arts Centre said: “We are delighted to support Scott as he takes the show back to Edinburgh for a second year. We can’t wait for more Edinburgh audiences to discover the show and connect with Scott’s unique blend of humour, creativity and storytelling”
Former Tees Valley Artist of the Year, Scott creates surreal, funny and reflective theatre rooted in the communities and places that shaped him. His work aims to ensure audiences can see themselves represented on stage, using humour as an accessible gateway into thought-provoking themes and stories.
Surreally Good is directed, devised and co-written by award-winning comedian and theatre-maker Ed Gaughan, whose credits include work with Milton Jones and Josie Long. Original music is composed by Jeremy Bradfield.
