This March, Jackdaw Media presents ‘Shuggy Boats’, a brilliant new comedy from BAFTA Award-winning writer Jacquie Lawrence. The North Eastern ensemble cast includes Dave Johns, Natalie Ann Jamieson, Alicya Eyo, Libby Davison and Phillippa Wilson, with special screen appearances from Denise Welch, Charlie Hardwick and Si King.
‘Shuggy Boats’ follows the human dynamo Maeve, who drops an unexpected bombshell at her birthday party in front of her television quiz-obsessed husband, cocky son, grieving sister and work-centred niece. In a state of panic, the entire family is forced to confront changes they did not realise were necessary. But when Maeve meets Fingers, newly released from prison, the real mayhem begins.
Comedy and chaos intertwine in this emotional and immensely funny Geordie story – so funny it reportedly had the cast laughing throughout rehearsals. This tumultuous shuggy boat ride veers between the disparate worlds of tough Provvy women, intense ‘Mastermind’ addicts and the glittering joy of Tynemouth Pride, delivering punchy confrontation one moment and heart-warming connection the next. Packed with local legends, Geordie heart and razor-sharp humour, ‘Shuggy Boats’ invites audiences to buckle up and enjoy the ride.
Showing at Newcastle’s Live Theatre from Friday 6th to Saturday 21st March, this two-hour production skilfully balances shocking twists with raw Geordie comedy, taking audiences on an unforgettable journey.
Tickets, priced from £11.00 in advance, are available at live.org.uk.
