Teesside indie outfit, Provenance, made up of members Theo Formby-Jackson (vocals/rhythm guitar), Joe Bradford (lead guitar), Harry Blythe (bass guitar) and Jack Obern (drums), are going from strength to strength at the moment, having won our NE Volume Music Bar Battle of the Bands competition in 2023.
The band got together in the summer of 2022. They noted: “After some attempts with other bands fell through, we instantly clicked. The songs ‘Say It Again’ and Close To You’ were written shortly after we became a band. We haven’t stopped since and here we are today with multiple singles out.”
Speaking about their plans for 2024, they explained: “Our first plan for 2024 is to release our fourth single, ‘Calling’, alongside our first music video for said song. The single will be out on Sunday 3rd March and the music video will be announced shortly after. We’re working alongside Videographer Josh Montoro and photographer Leon Armstrong for the music video for ‘Calling’ and many more projects are to follow. We’ll also be focusing on recording more music with Sugar House.”
Speaking about their ambitions, the band noted: “We want to be at Leeds Festival and Glasto but realistically, we want to get our names out there on smaller festivals and venues around the UK starting with Loop Fest, Shropshire in May.”
Provenance are regulars on the live scene, especially on Teesside. Speaking about their love for playing live, they declared: “Performing on stage comes very naturally to us because of our chemistry. Whether we’re practising in Jack’s bedroom or playing to complete strangers in Manchester or sold out-gigs in Stockton, we bring the same energy and stage presence to all of our gigs. We say this is the best ‘job’ in the world because we go around the country playing our songs as a bunch of really good friends that just enjoy spending time together, and playing the tunes we’ve written for us and others to enjoy.”
When talking about future gigs, Provenance noted: “You can catch us on the Munro line-up this summer in Stockton as well as Loop Fest and, hopefully, Leeds Fest and Glasto.”
It looks like a busy year for provenance. What are you most looking forward to seeing from them? In my personal opinion, I believe they have a glowing career ahead of them and are certainly ones to watch out for.
