Thieves of Liberty have made a big impact on the North East scene, initially performing as a cover band but now writing, releasing and gigging their own original material.
This approach has helped them build a solid following in a relatively short period and their energetic and upbeat brand of female-fronted rock has been a hit with audiences.
Speaking about their plans, Sim, the band’s bass player and backing vocalist, noted: “We are hoping to release an EP, our second, hopefully around May time. The EP will be a follow-up to our first EP ‘Yeah, You?’ which was released in September. We are making the last touches on some songs to decide what’s going on there. We will be changing up the style a bit from the first one, going in a couple of different directions and seeing where the interest comes from. As a musician, it’s fantastic to write stuff you really love to play but it has to have a fan base as well.”
The outfit are also looking to change things up a little: “We are expanding our horizons a little bit and we’ll see what stuff goes down well at the gigs we are doing in the run-up to launching the EP. Our style so far has been up-beat in-your-face rock so the plan is to have a slower track on there and see how that goes down with everyone. We recorded the first EP at Blast Studios in Newcastle with Alex McArthur and we wanted to go back there for this one because we really enjoyed the experience we had last time.”
The outfit will head to Independent in Sunderland this April with plans for a ‘mini-tour’ if you will: “It’s going be the first of three gigs and we will be playing with a band called Take Today from Scotland and they are coming down to do the gig with us in Sunderland; we also have Tired of Fighting and Ruled By Raptors on the bill. After that, we are going to Edinburgh and Glasgow on the 10th and 11th where Take Today will be headlining and we’ll support them. We’ll be playing in two great venues in Scotland too including Sneaky Pete’s and Stereo.”
Thieves of Liberty’s headline gig takes place on Thursday April 9th at Independent, Sunderland.
