Last Train Home is the flagship festival for ‘Tracks Darlington’. Founded in 2016, and established as a ‘community interest company’ in 2020, Tracks have been running gigs, festivals and workshops for many years, creating opportunities for local artists. And they’ve put together a fascinating line-up once again.
Newcastle-based Holy Moly and the Crackers have been wowing audiences with their fiery combination of folk-rock and indie, with a punky edge, for almost a decade now. With four studio albums to date, the band have amassed a loyal following and their live shows are always well-received.
Championed by 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, following the release of their debut album ‘Popular Music’ in 2017, LIFE is the first four-piece guitar band from Hull to make serious waves since The Housemartins in the 1980s. LIFE are musically brilliant, always inspired by the geography, history and community of their hometown. Led by enigmatic frontman Mez, expect a blistering live set.
Low Girl is the work of multi-instrumentalist Sarah Cosgrove, alongside band members Toby, Tom and Brad. Their debut EP was playlisted on 6 Music and the band has played BBC Introducing slots at Reading and Leeds festivals. Their sound is indie-pop, drawing on various musical influences such as Metronomy, Radiohead and Sufjan Stevens.
Hot Wax are a fresh young trio taking the UK by storm. Their sound is loud and frenetic. Meeting at Music College, the trio shared a resentment of the hyper-critical nature of their classmates and channelled being ‘outsiders’ into their music. Total self-belief has made this band one to watch this year.
Car Park are an all-female trio who have ripped up the rulebook and completely re-invented what a rock band should be. Powerful and dynamic, fun and refreshing, make sure you witness these gals rip up the stage.
