Three of the North East’s finest musical talents are heading back home and landing on the stage of Gateshead’s celebrated Sage One this month for a one-off performance of original music arranged especially for the Royal Northern Sinfonia to kickstart the orchestra’s 60th birthday weekend and show just how versatile a 21st century chamber orchestra can be.
Maximo Park has over the years established themselves as an ever-changing, politically-charged force of North East nature who has been touring worldwide since the turn of the millennium. Fans can expect a performance drenched in irresistible pop-rock which delves deep into the realms of anger, hope, resistance and most predominantly, empathy. Maximo Park’s music is a knockout fusion of great melodies and powerful lyrics and the band has achieved great critical praise in their near 20-year stint as one of the North East’s greatest musical exports. They have been described by ‘Line of Best Fit’ as “a band whose eminently zealous live show has only blossomed over the years”.
Friends and collaborators of Royal Northern Sinfonia, Field Music, are ready and poised to bring their recent studio album entitled ‘Open Here’ to the prestigious stage of the Sage One. Their performance will feature expanded orchestration following on from their performances with their Open Here Orchestra earlier in the year at the Northern Stage and Barbican in London. Speaking of their musical talent, music magazine Mojo proclaimed rather fondly that; ‘“No other existing British group gets near their level of creativity, nor manages to fuse lyrical and musical complexity with the sense of people in love with the lyrical properties of great music”.
Beth Jeans Houghton, better known by her stage name Du Blonde, is a celebrated multidisciplinary artist and musician who toils with animation, illustration, sculpture, video editing, song-writing and music production. Her performance this month is sure to feature new material in equal measure to tracks from her critically-acclaimed album, ‘Welcome Back to Milk’. Having recently returned from a successful UK tour with American songwriter Ezra Furman, Du Blonde’s performance in Gateshead is set to be a marvellous night broadcasting her fantastically unique song-writing.
RNS Rocks featuring Maximo Park, Field Music and Du Blonde takes over the illustrious Sage One in Gateshead on Friday 21st September with doors opening at 19:30. Tickets are priced at £24.50 and are available to purchase online at sagegateshead.com or by contacting the Sage Box Office directly on 0191 443 4661.
