For a musician to step back and swap arenas, such as Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena, to smaller venues is both intriguing and exciting. For Steve Rodgers, it’s a natural progression to move his folky, blues rock to The Globe, Newcastle on Friday 27th October.
After playing all over the world with the likes of Aerosmith’s Joe Perry, Bad Company and headlining in countries such as Canada and the UK, Rodgers is no stranger to the live scene – and touring in his own right has seen him become one of the most in-demand international artists right now. Described as “fantastic” by Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, it’s no surprise.
Although now an ‘underground’ sensation, his musical connections stretch back as far as when he was just 17 years old and forming bands with friends. His first band, Boa, went on to create two full-length records as well as providing the title track to Japanese multi-award winning animation series, ‘Lain – Serial Xperiments.’
Now, though, Rodgers is embarking on a new project, which has seen the critics compare his music to world-renowned artists such as Paolo Nutini and Jack Johnson. These comparisons, combined with Queen’s Roger Taylor praising him, saying: “Great singing and songwriting – I’m impressed,” is enough to spark confidence in any newly-formed act.
This intimate show will certainly be one to cherish if you’ve witnessed him around the world in the past – being amongst 150 music lovers as opposed to the Metro Radio Arena’s 11,000 capacity will be an enjoyable alternative for both fans and Rodgers himself.
Support for the night comes from local singer-songwriter, Hattie Murdoch.
Tickets, priced at £8.00 in advance, are available from theglobenewcastle.bar/whats-on. Tickets on the door (if there are any left) will be priced at £10.00.
