The Devils are one hell of a hard touring band and over the course of May and June, they will be visiting at least eight countries in Europe and performing over thirty gigs on their 2019 summer tour. Luckily for us North Easterners, they will be visiting Middlesbrough for a concert at Westgarth Social Club on Friday 24th May.
Formed in southern Italy in 2015 by Gianni Puzzadidio, a talented guitarist taking cues from Motorhead and Venom, and Erica Volgare, owning the drums with a vengeance and screaming out a vocal that rivals the best singers in the rock world, The Devils garnered instant attention for their dark and provocative hard metal sound and very swiftly hit the radar of Jim Diamond. This Detroit-based producer, famed for his work on The White Stripes’ first two albums, has also been instrumental in the rise of acts like Electric 6 and recorded legendary rock bands The Sonics and The Fleshtones. The sound Jim Diamond achieves is often attributed to the use of strictly analogue equipment in his Ghetto Recorders Studio and his involvement with bands has often catapulted them to the attention of the world.
Highly charged with thrash metal grit and unrestrained sexual energy, The Devils shock and amaze with their ‘in your face’ and conversely ‘in their pants’ lyrics. Throbbing drums and driving guitars abound in a wall of sound and fuzz and the punk/rock flavours really come home with songs often lasting less than two minutes.
To get a real flavour of the band, if you haven’t caught them yet, check out their video ‘Put Your Devil Into My Ass’ (available on YouTube) where they combine masturbation fantasies, hard rock and religious imagery in a shocking, effective, yet slick display of the band’s creative talents.
The duo is now releasing material with Voodoo Rhythm Records and through this collaboration has wowed festival-goers across Europe with their explosive live shows.
Dressed as a priest and a nun for most of their live performances, expect to be outraged, turned-on and entertained in equal measures at their show at the Westgarth Social Club in Middlesbrough.
Support comes from The Milk Lizards and The Sleaze Queens.
Tickets, priced at £11.00 in advance, are available from seetickets.com.
