It’s the most wonderful time of the year, which means that Teesside’s beloved Cattle and Cane will return for their annual Christmas show, taking place at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Friday 20th December.
Siblings Joe and Helen Hammill will celebrate the festive season by performing their signature mix of soaring harmonies, self-reflective lyrics, and heartfelt indie-folk music.
Formed in 2010, their familial bond quickly translated into a musical partnership that has gone from strength to strength over the years.
Over more than a decade, they have built a loyal fanbase and earned praise for their magical live shows, having shared stages with the likes of Tom Odell, Brian Wilson, Stereophonics, The Head and the Heart, Lewis Capaldi, and Half Moon Run.
The duo are perhaps best known for their Teesside anthem ‘Infant Hercules’, which, a few seasons ago, found itself proudly featured on Middlesbrough FC’s shirts.
Their debut album, ‘Home’, was released in 2015 to critical acclaim, followed by ‘Mirrors’ in 2017 and ‘Navigator’ in 2019. After releasing a collection of covers in 2021, they returned last year with their latest album, ‘Golden’. Described by Americana UK as “a well-crafted offering” featuring “the juxtaposition of a layered pop sound with lyrics about love’s hard reality,” ‘Golden’ showcases the duo’s ability to weave complex emotions into accessible, beautifully crafted music. B-Side Guys also praised the album, calling it “more than just an album; it’s a tapestry of memories, emotions, and timeless tales woven into ten heartfelt tracks.”
Cattle and Cane have performed at many of the UK’s finest festivals, including Cambridge Folk Festival, Black Deer, Tramlines, Live At Leeds, Liverpool Sound City, and Deer Shed. Internationally, they’ve made appearances at Canadian Music Week and the Reeperbahn Festival, to name just two.
Their music has been featured on numerous TV shows, including Sunday Brunch, Made in Chelsea, The Only Way Is Essex, and Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing. They’ve also received airplay from the likes of Dermot O’Leary on Radio 2, Elton John on his Rocket Hour show, and Frank Skinner on Absolute Radio.
This Christmas show will see them return to their native Teesside to headline a night of festive celebrations and music.
