Hailing from Limerick, Ireland, Dylan Flynn & The Dead Poets return to KU on Friday 26th June for what promises to be a memorable night of heartfelt indie rock. The quintet arrive on the back of a growing run of successful live dates, including a sold-out London show earlier this year, alongside performances in Sheffield, Southampton and a packed summer festival schedule.
The band have already spoken warmly about returning to the North East, saying they “had such a blast” during their previous visit. With their reputation continuing to grow, this feels like the perfect opportunity to catch them in an intimate venue before their steady rise inevitably takes them to larger headline shows.
Infectious both lyrically and instrumentally, Dylan Flynn & The Dead Poets combine emotional storytelling with energetic, emotionally charged performances. Drawing comparisons to Bruce Springsteen through their honest lyricism and soaring saxophone sections, the band blend Irish indie with elements of pop-rock to create a sound that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.
Tracks such as ‘Not Waiting on Anything’ showcase the group’s ability to capture feelings of longing, uncertainty and emotional conflict with sincerity and warmth. Meanwhile, ‘Running Away’ highlights the band’s more energetic side, demonstrating both their musical chemistry and their undeniable talent as live performers. Together, these songs reveal the balance at the heart of the band’s sound – introspective songwriting paired with uplifting, cathartic energy.
Following the release of their 2024 self-produced album, ‘Caught Up in Delusion’, and their 2025 EP, ‘I’ve Been Living Life the Wrong Way’, the tour marks another important step forward for the group as they continue building momentum across the UK and Ireland.
The night will also feature support from respected local musician George Bailey, whose strong stage presence and engaging live performances have earned him a loyal following in the region. Completing the line-up are Crescent, adding further local talent to an already impressive bill.
Even for those unfamiliar with Dylan Flynn & The Dead Poets, this show offers the perfect introduction to a band rapidly gaining attention across live music circles and streaming platforms alike. Honest, passionate and full of energy, it promises to be one of those gigs people will be talking about long after the final song ends.
