Live music is back at Sage! Sage Live 2020 (hosted at Sage Gateshead) started just a few days ago and continues throughout November, with concerts on Friday and Saturday evenings that can be attended either in person or via a paid online live stream.
Fridays will see shows from Royal Northern Sinfonia, whereas the Saturday events will give you the opportunity to see a whole host of different contemporary musicians playing anything from rock to folk and more.
The first of this month’s shows takes place on Friday 6th November and takes a classical turn with the Royal Northern Sinfonia playing four pieces, including Sibelius’ famous Symphony No.5 and the less-known They Call Her Love by YlvaSkorg. The orchestra is led by young French conductor, Chloé van Soeterstède, and each of their shows will be preceded by a special performance on the concourse for those that manage to grab in-person tickets.
The following night, the Sage will play host to the Mercury Prize-nominated band Lanterns on The Lake, a celestial post-rock group from Newcastle, who will play their recent album ‘Spook the Herd’ in its entirety.
The five-piece say that “playing at Sage Gateshead was always a huge aspiration” for them, and so they’ll certainly be giving it their all. They’ll be joined with a special pre-concert performance from Martha Hill, a songwriter labelled “one to watch” by BBC Introducing.
Acts for the rest of the month are still TBC at the time of writing but are sure to be worth watching.
So far in October, we have seen the brilliant songsmith Richard Dawson and the amazing Kathryn Tickell as she played music with her family in a clog-stomping folk bonanza.
With five weeks left to go of Sage Live 2020, we can’t wait to see what else is in store.
There will only be 300 tickets released for each concert to ensure appropriate distancing can take place, but if you miss out on a spot then don’t hesitate to book a slot on the live stream so that you can watch from home.
The money from sales will be going to a good cause, safeguarding the future of the venue so that it can keep providing a place for people to get together over their love of music.
