Snowed In Sunlun is Sunderland’s newest festive multi-genre showcase, organised by first-year students at the Northern Academy of Music Education (NAME) in collaboration with Sunderland Music City. The event, taking place at Pop Recs on Wednesday 11th December, is a fundraiser for Love, Amelia, a local charity dedicated to tackling child poverty.
The show will feature four of the most exciting bands from the local music scene. We spoke with the event organisers, who shared their enthusiasm: “The event came about as part of one of our assignments, but it’s something we’re genuinely interested in taking further and making a success.”
They continued: “It’s an event that has brought us together as a group, and we’re hoping it will lead to more opportunities like this one. It’s for a great cause, and it brings local bands together to support a shared mission.”
The organisers are particularly excited about their partnership with Love, Amelia: “They’re a wonderful charity doing incredible work to support young people in poverty. We can only hope that we can use music to unite people under this cause and make a real difference in addressing the struggles that so many young people face.”
The line-up for the night promises something for everyone. The first band on the bill will be The Monday Club, an indie rock outfit known for their guitar-driven sound. Next up are Celadore,an alt-pop rock project led by Sunderland-born musician Rachael Small. A talented vocalist and songwriter with over seven years of experience in the performance industry, Rachael has surrounded herself with a band of equally talented musicians.
Pretty Velvet will bring a retro rock vibe to the stage, with a dual-fronted setup and a sound reminiscent of classic acts like Aerosmith and The Black Crowes. Finally, headlining the event will be Divine Image, a six-piece metal and hardcore band who pride themselves on defying genre boundaries. Their intense, groovy wall of sound promises to cap off the night in spectacular fashion.
The organisers are committed to uplifting and supporting the local music scene and hope that the multi-genre format will help the audience discover their new favourite band.
