The 2025 instalment of The Gathering Sounds, Stockton’s premier new music showcase, is fast approaching on Saturday 27th September. Meeting the widespread disbelief that twelve months have flown by, the festival will once again deliver a white-hot explosion of acts – emergent, burgeoning, and nascent – drawn from a diverse range of backgrounds and styles.
Stockton-on-Tees is fiercely proud of its reputation as a hub for live music, often punching above its weight within the wider regional scene. The Gathering Sounds has become one of the crown jewels in the town’s cultural calendar, serving as both a platform and a proving ground for artists honing their craft.
As always, some of Stockton’s proud central web of music-focused venues will play a starring role, hosting the many corners of this multi-faceted one-day jamboree. Seven stages will be in action across ARC, The Georgian Theatre, KU, ARC 2, The Social Room, The Link, and The Green Room. Festival-goers will enjoy a complete live music experience, roaming between venues within a compact, walkable circuit. Its post-summer scheduling also gives the event a distinctive character and energy.
Headlining the ARC stage is Irish singer-songwriter Somebody’s Child, fresh from releasing their second album, ‘When Youth Fades Away’. KU will be topped by hotly tipped Manchester indie outfit The Covasettes – a band already accomplished in both sound and stature despite their youth. Punk-charged Bristol trio Grandma’s House will close The Social Room, while Manchester’s better joy, brimming with raw energy, take the sub-headline slot at ARC.
The latest additions to the line-up include fast-rising Falkirk five-piece Brògeal, blending guitar-driven genres with Celtic influences, and London’s Keo, an alternative rock outfit channelling a mix of 90s alt-rock touchstones and contemporary indie luminaries.
These names are just the tip of the iceberg. The bill also boasts Guilty Pleasure, Sunbeam, Dirty Blonde, Dylan Flynn & The Dead Poets, The Guest List, L’objectif, and many more – over fifty acts in total. While the core of the line-up sits firmly in the rock and pop sphere, The Gathering Sounds thrives on variety, ensuring plenty of unexpected musical turns.
In short, Stockton is set to host another day-long celebration of fresh, boundary-pushing talent, reaffirming its status as a vital stop on the UK’s live music map.
