Tim Gambles is a guitar-shredding powerhouse, keeping the fiery flame of headbanging, horn-throwing, guitar-based rock music alive and kicking. Originally from Tasmania, where he was raised in a highly creative environment by two musician parents, this hard-rocking guitar hero now calls the North East home. That said, Tim, who has been performing live since the age of 16, seems incapable of staying in one place for too long and practically lives on the road.
His latest summer tour has seen him rocking stages across Barcelona, the Netherlands and the UK. Primarily a solo artist, Tim’s performances range from impressive multi-instrumental stripped-back shows to intimate acoustic sets, and occasionally full-band appearances.
Tim’s original, mosh-worthy alt-rock anthems, including ‘Gravedigger’ and ‘Story Told Wrong’, combine soaring musicianship with deeply emotional lyrical themes. His songs explore human vulnerability, the complexities of modern life and the fallout from broken relationships, resonating with audiences through both honesty and intensity.
Never content to stand still creatively, Tim’s latest single, ‘Through The Sound’, tackles an entirely different yet universally important subject: the climate crisis. Through his lyrics, Gambles conveys the burden and responsibility of environmental anxiety, highlighting the tension between corporate accountability and individual action.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Tim explains: “Environmental issues can feel confusing. There are huge corporations making damaging decisions, but us as individuals can also be a part of the problem.”
From the opening moments, the song radiates a palpable sense of frustration, reflecting the urgency of the issue at its heart. Tim’s vocal performance is immaculate throughout, at times drawing comparisons to Matt Bellamy of Muse. As the track progresses, the soundscape expands and grows heavier, mirroring the escalating nature of the environmental crisis it addresses.
A vast, roaring wall of sound builds around a deep rhythmic pulse, creating an atmosphere that is both captivating and unsettling. The symbolism is anything but subtle – and rightly so. The song then erupts into an explosive guitar solo, packed with pent-up energy and urgency. It feels less like a melodic flourish and more like a warning siren sounding the alarm.
Remarkably, ‘Through The Sound’ was recorded entirely in a single live take alongside session musicians at the extraordinary subterranean studios of Museum of Old and New Art (MONA). The result is a highly pressurised yet immensely powerful recording that not only demands attention but also deserves to be heard, understood and admired.
You can listen to the single now on all major streaming platforms.
