Electronic music has somehow survived the modern workings of autotune, pop-rock, and politically-charged lyrics of most current singles. Sometimes it’s nice to return to a time of fun simplicity – and that’s exactly what AXLS provide with their single, ‘Discotek’.
A call-back to the glory days of the discotheque, AXLS’ latest single is a strong piece and one that survives on the strengths of its mixing. It’d be a club-worthy tune if those establishments were open.
Their Kraftwerk and The Human League influences are very obvious; a throwback to the ‘80s and ‘90s era of electro-pop. Their first in a series of singles is a promising piece, one that will appeal to fans of Phillip Oakey’s Sheffield birthed-band.
With uninspired, rather standard lyrics, but a musical accompaniment and electronic style that far exceed my expectations, AXLS have a strong single on their hands and it provides a strong introduction to the band.
You can listen to the track now on all major online streaming platforms.
