‘July’ is the latest single by Newcastle-based indie band BALTIC who have previously boasted Spotify editorial positions and main stage festival slots, as well as a support slot for Supergrass.
The song feels perfect for background music at a pub or party as it’s easy listening with a fun catchy chorus and, overall, one of the most upbeat songs I’ve listened to in a while.
The lyrics borrow from a lot of indie tropes, with a 90’s Brit-pop normal-ness, telling stories from their youth and pubs that I’m sure a lot of people could resonate with. This, however, plays into the overall feeling of the song lacking some real identity.
All in all, the song is definitely enjoyable to listen to – I just wish the band could find their own sound rather than playing so much into tropes and nostalgia.
You can listen to ‘July’ now on all major streaming platforms.
