North East psychedelic rockers End Credits ready their ‘B-Sides & Demos’ EP as a companion to excellent debut album, ‘The Traveller’. Featuring two demos from the album, the centrepiece is previously unreleased track ‘Forsythia’, cut from the album due to vinyl limitations and rerecorded here.
Always carrying keen progressive influences and as unpredictably eclectic guitar genre cosmonauts, the band are unsurprisingly full of surprises here, as the track swings through a trademark suite of styles.
With tense opening atmospherics flowing into a chunky fuzzbox of heavy, snaking riffs, their citation of Tool is no shock, the descending spacecraft dynamics on display having been eternally crystallised for all subsequent comers by the LA icons and their desert grunge peers, Kyuss.
The counterpoints which make End Credits so thrilling, as they did across ‘The Traveller’, include Northern Britpop vocals and the shimmery indie riffs which sprout up out of nowhere, triangulating prog and indie music with the aplomb of that other key influence, Foals.
