With Covid kicking our sense of time into touch, it’s astonishing to find that it’s been almost two years since we’ve had new music from local art funksters, Head of Light Entertainment (HOLE).
Seemingly having spent the time swotting up on art/funk greats and, in particular, The Futureheads and Maximo Park, ‘New Boy’ sees HOLE head into more instantly accessible ground than previous releases; their love for new-wave guitars and interesting time changes still very much intact, but now with a definite chart-friendly melody line and lyric sheet.
Full of lovely vocal layerings and choppy dance-floor-ready guitars and synths, ‘New Boy’ is an interesting progression from a band already known for pushing the art/new-wave sound into interesting spaces.
Sounding refreshed and packed with new ideas, this is a great way to re-emerge from two years of swotting.
You can listen to ‘New Boy’ now on all major streaming platforms.
