Hailing from Ireland myself, I’m perhaps dubious when I hear of any song with the word balaclava in the title. But to sum up that sound, I adhere to the band, whose self-description is “completely unleashed with malicious intent”, and that Northern Hemisphere is a catchy creation of punk, melody, and heavy guitars – and it works.
Fronted by Gaz Price, they’ve quickly become one of the region’s heavy hitters, blitzing through a run of sold-out shows in 2023. Joined by Georgia Smith on drums, Nico Mouissie on bass and Sean McCloskey on lead guitar, they show all the signs of taking the nation by storm.
‘Don the Balaclava’ is a tale of standing tall and refusing to accept what life has dealt: the social distortion of a modern age, perhaps? It’s fun, it’s catchy and it’s addictive. It’s also available to stream now – and you should certainly do that!
