Newcastle indie/alternative outfit Polyvinyl are back with their latest release, ‘Running from Home’, a powerful expression of frustration at being confined by the four walls of their upbringing.
The layered, almost ‘80s-inspired new wave keyboards and strong female vocals give the track a quality that immediately elevates it above the competition. It resonates from the outset, like an old friend you’ve known for years – you’re invited in from the very first listen.
Taken from their EP ‘Where This Ends’, I’ll be honest and say that indie music is not usually my taste – but I absolutely love this. The track is rooted in reflection on difficult personal circumstances – in this case, drummer Jamie’s divorce – yet there is a universal thread that draws the listener in. That emotional honesty, paired with a polished, confident sound, makes for a compelling release.
With a number of prestigious awards already under the band’s belt, I have no doubt this latest offering will continue to enhance their growing reputation.
