Tired of Fighting return with their latest single, ‘Chocolate’, an explosion of alt-punk rebellion and perhaps the most vibrant, turbulent and bouncy song this Durham/Newcastle trio have ever created.
Written about a picturesque summer’s day, experienced from the point of view of someone with depression, there’s a very honest reflection in the music that grabs you and forces you to take notice. The active normalisation of symptoms which, until now, may have been seen as too taboo to discuss, is a huge step forward for understanding and inclusion. It’s a sense of wanting to enjoy something when your mind is actively working against you.
Recorded without the use of a click track, the piece often waivers between slowing down and speeding up without a moment’s notice, perhaps being a clever allegory for how someone with mental health issues might feel, and how their thought process would cope in such an experience.
‘Chocolate’ is available now on all streaming services.
