James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough and their catering provider, Serco have teamed up with EnA Photography and Martin Davison Photography in a new charitable venture.
During the recent refurbishment of the restaurant and coffee shop areas of the hospital, catering suppliers Serco invited two local professional Teesside photographers to design and display their photography talents on walls across the refurbished areas, to display ‘A Vision of Teesside’ to all staff and visitors who use the facilities on the James Cook site.
Ian Allcock, from EnA Photography, and Martin Davison, were identified by Rick Dodgson, Retail Catering Manager for Serco at James Cook, as talented local photographers with an eye for images that display Teesside at its beautiful best. They worked together to design and install over 60 photographs which can now be seen across the rest areas at the Marton Road hospital.
Rick said: “This simple idea has achieved a fabulous result beyond my initial vision. Ian and Martin have a talent for capturing local landmarks, which has brightened up the restaurant, created a talking point and will raise funds for our Hospital Charity. This showcases the wonderful scenery around Teesside whilst staying true to our industrial landscape and heritage.”
The framed photographic prints have gone on sale to staff and visitors alike and Ian and Martin are donating to the hospital’s own charity, The James Cook University Hospital Charity, from each sale made.
Head of the Charity, Ben Murphy, said: “We are looking forward to everyone seeing the images of local landmarks around our restaurant and coffee shop areas. The photos really capture our local area perfectly and I’m sure it will contribute to the wellbeing of our staff who will enjoy these photos when taking a well-earned break. We are delighted Ian and Martin have chosen our charity to support; they are donating a percentage of all sales from the photos sold here – thank you so much.”
The framed Teesside photographs are now up on the walls in the restaurant and coffee shop, in a gallery format, and are available to order direct from the photographers. Serco have also arranged a ‘Meet the Photographers’ day in late June, where Ian and Martin will be on-site to discuss the artwork, take orders and generally talk about their work across the Teesside area.
