Nothing will deter this Glaswegian comedian from doing what he does best as he is back with yet another tour entitled ‘No Refunds’.
Gary Meikle graces Teesside with his presence once more with a stop at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Friday 6th September in what is certain to be a sensational night full of laughs that you won’t want to miss.
Ever since his debut in 2014, the charismatic, crude and credibly captivating comedian has climbed the ranks to his success in the comedy scene, with his most notable works having reached many people’s hearts and funny bones across the globe. Those notable works include that of his social media rants such as ‘Eyebrows’ and ‘Hair Extensions’ that have garnered 150 million views online.
His observational comedy as well as his well-crafted, engaging storytelling has contributed to his success of drawing in crowds worldwide, as he’s not only performed in clubs in the UK, but also Spain, Dubai and also the United States.
In fact, last year, “Papa”, as he is becoming more commonly known as, became the first-ever comedian worldwide without an agent (his choice) to be granted a full working visa for the USA – and is keen to keep on showing why.
Most interestingly, Meikle is not the type of comedian to hold back on intimate stories of his own as his material touches on topics of his tough upbringing and first-hand experience as a single dad, as well as using his daughter, Ainsley, as a muse for his jokes, discussing subjects such as periods, which dads like himself tend to tread on. And yet, it’s this form of unmasked realism alongside his playful dark humour in the stories of his stand-up acts that makes him such a star attraction whenever he performs.
What impresses me about Meikle is his life story which he draws upon to create his comedy: Meikle was kicked out of four schools, was involved with gangs and was sent to a children’s home where he stayed until he was 16 after which he became homeless and resorted to staying at hostels and friend’s couches.
It goes without saying that Gary Meikle is someone you can trust to provide a ‘uniquely hilarious’ (Herald) night destined to captivate comedy-loving crowds through his ‘ingenious storytelling’ (Chortle).
Tickets, priced from £30.00 in advance, are available from middlesbroughtownhall.co.uk.
