With her cheeky, quick off the mark and side-achingly funny approach to stand-up, Lou Conran has quickly become internationally renowned and will be treating the people of Darlington to a laugh-a-minute spectacle in her latest show at The Forum.
Having originally trained as an actress back in the 90s at the Oxford School of Drama, she has since gone on to craft a top-class career in comedy. Known for her high-energy storytelling with an instinctive element of wit, she has been wowing audiences and industry alike for the past 15 years.
Most recently, she has been making a name for herself with her compere and hosting skills as well as being a top choice for providing tour support for comedy peers including the likes of Sarah Millican, Joe Lycett, Suzi Ruffell and Puppetry of the Penis.
She has since become Sarah Millican’s resident MC for her material night, ‘The Playground’, which started back in 2015 and has since moved online over the last six months due to lockdown, and she is also proving to be a popular choice for festivals, having previously performed at the likes of Latitude, Download, Kendal Calling and Wilderness as well as Internationally at Perth and Adelaide Fringe Festival in Australia.
Over the course of her career, Lou has become a highly-requested warm-up act across the BBC, CBBC and ITV as well as being a critically acclaimed writer, being a part of the BBC Writers Room-Comedy Room in 2016 and 2017 and also a writer in residence, working on shows including Hacker T Dog, For CBBC Presentation, The Show What We Wrote and Abooreal Apes. She has also recently presented BBC R4’s Extra’s Comedy Club.
Her stellar performance at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe, show title ‘I Love Lou C’, bought her critical acclaim for speaking candidly about the loss of her daughter, with the show going on to have a run at London’s Prestigious Soho Theatre as well as becoming an advocate of the charity, Saying Goodbye (Mariposa Trust).
As well as her appearance at Hilarity Bites at The Forum, Lou is also set to perform at Leicester Comedy Festival on February 13th.
