A new yearly comedy tradition is returning to Tyneside for the third year running in order to raise money for Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland.
On Tuesday 2nd July, the North East will shine a light on the stand-up talent of women in the region while spreading awareness about an important cause.
With 15 acts announced, all performers will be donating their time for free so that all proceeds can go to the charity. The gala will be hosted at the iconic Tyne Theatre & Opera House and will raise money for those affected by sexual violence.
Rape Crisis provides their services for free, including counselling, group work and sessions to any girls, women or transgender women. All of their services are delivered by women to create a space where victims feel supported and safe.
The charity aims to use its women-centric ethos to support victims of sexual violence and to raise awareness and challenge the values that lead to aggression towards women. They believe that gender inequality and control of women are big contributors to violence against women and seek to change the social acceptance of these acts.
One of the ways in which Rape Crisis does this is to educate and inform organisations on the reality that these women face by offering training opportunities for professionals in the form of online courses.
As donations and fundraising are some of the key ways that the charity is able to provide its valuable services for free to survivors, this year’s ‘Tyne to Stand Up’ is a major event in their fundraising calendar.
This year’s event will be hosted by Newcastle local Sammy Dobson who is known for her work on British TV dramas such as Byker Grove. Known for her wickedly witty stage presence, her natural charm will direct the evening’s events.
Over a dozen other comedians will be in attendance including Kelly Edgar, Lauren Pattison and Catherine Young. With such an eclectic mix of voices, it is sure to be an evening that will make everyone laugh, no matter what their comedy tastes.
Run by Felt Nowt Comedy, which is run by passionate professionals in the comedy scene, ‘Tyne To Stand Up 3’ is set to be an unforgettable night that will benefit all those involved.
The show is recommended for those aged 16+.
Tickets, priced from £8.50 in advance, are available at tynetheatreandoperahouse.uk.
