This Christmas, Gosforth Civic Theatre welcomes families to experience The Velveteen Rabbit or How Toys Become Real, a captivating adaptation of the classic 1920s children’s story by Margery Williams, brought to life by Newcastle-based balletLORENT.
This timeless tale of love, transformation, and the true meaning of being “real” follows a young boy who reunites with his beloved childhood toy – a floppy-eared, honey-coloured rabbit. The 45-minute performance unfolds in a nursery full of nostalgic toys, with the Rabbit’s journey from a simple stuffed animal to a living, breathing creature portrayed through vibrant dance, storytelling, and a score by Murray Gold (Doctor Who).
Choreographed by Liv Lorent and narrated by Ben Crompton (Game of Thrones), the production features stunning set and costume design by Nasir Mazhar. Aimed at young children and families, the show offers an interactive, relaxed atmosphere where children can sit close to the stage and meet the characters afterwards.
Tickets, priced from £12.00 in advance, are available at gosforthcivictheatre.co.uk.
