The festive, family-friendly show A Town Called Christmas is set to delight audiences this holiday season at ARC in Stockton and Gosforth Civic Theatre in Newcastle.
Aimed at children aged three and over, the production promises a heartwarming seasonal story for the whole family.
Far away, beyond the snow, and nestled in a perfect nook, you’ll find a town called Christmas. Clementine dreams of a place where gingerbread houses glow under twinkling fairy-lights, chocolate coins are currency, and streets are filled with snowball fights, laughter hanging in the air like baubles – the happiest place on Earth. Or at least it used to be.
Audiences can expect a rollercoaster of magic, music, and mayhem as Clementine crash-lands in a crumbling town, where only long-forgotten fables, a cantankerous caretaker, and a glitching robot remain. Will they save the town and restore its Christmas spirit? The production promises to tick all the cosy, seasonal boxes, with a story accessible to children while offering subtle nods for adults to enjoy, as the best children’s theatre often does.
Presented by Gala Durham in collaboration with Wrongsemble, an award-winning Leeds-based theatre company, A Town Called Christmas focuses on material for young audiences while prioritising accessibility and shared experience. All artists are connected to Northern England, collectively representing the eclectic communities of the region, ensuring an authentic and engaging festive experience for all.
As a thoughtful and inclusive feature, all ARC performances are part of the venue’s relaxed programme, designed to create a comfortable experience for people with learning disabilities, autism, or sensory or neurological conditions. Volumes are kept lower, lighting is consistent, and there is a more relaxed approach to movement and noise within the auditorium. Additional options, such as extra space and reduced queueing, are available on request, making this an especially commendable initiative.
In Stockton, performances run twice daily from Tuesday 2nd December to Saturday 13th December, while in Newcastle, the show takes place twice daily from Friday 19th December to Sunday 21st December. Most shows will be morning and afternoon performances, except for Friday 19th at Gosforth, which features an afternoon and evening performance.
Tickets, priced from £10.00 in advance, are available at arcstockton.co.uk and gosforthcivictheatre.co.uk.
