Hartlepool’s own Michael Gallagher is set to play two homecoming gigs at The Studio on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th November.
The singer-songwriter has had a stellar 2025, culminating in a headline tour. Fresh off the back of supporting The Ks and delivering an exquisite set at Worthy Farm this summer, Micky is buzzing: “I am really excited for the hometown shows – nothing beats playing in front of a local crowd, and I get to do it twice!”
Years of relentless gigging have given Michael the chance to hone his craft, delivering a distinct blend of indie rock infused with heartfelt lyricism. He added: “I suppose it was just a natural thing to become a musician. I got a guitar when I was younger and started out playing in bands at school. I’ve always just written songs since then.”
Taking inspiration from everyday life, many of his tracks are based on real people or genuine situations – a tried-and-tested approach for the most sincere songwriters. Growing up, bands like The Strokes and The Vaccines helped shape his sound. Ever the optimist, Michael shares that his dream collaboration would be with none other than Sir Paul McCartney.
Recently, Michael has piqued the interest of mainstream radio, with BBC Introducing and Radio X backing his music. “It means the world to get support from radio. They’ve supported me for a long time, and I’m grateful for the exposure.”
While social media remains a vital tool for promotion, it’s often a challenge for independent artists to keep up with fresh content. Michael sees it as a valuable asset but adds: “I try to enjoy it and not take myself too seriously.”
Listing Hartlepool Town Hall and Glastonbury as his favourite gigs so far, Michael realised a childhood dream when he performed at the iconic festival. However, his ultimate ambition would be to play Victoria Park – home of Hartlepool United – someday.
His latest single, ‘Pour Me Another’, has been well received by his ever-growing fanbase. “I’m sat on a lot of new music,” he says, “and hopefully there’ll be more to come before the tour starts.”
