After a year off, Munro Festival, based in Stockton, is set to go ahead as a socially distanced festival in 2021 and will be held at the Georgian Theatre, Stockton’s longest-running music venue.
Unlike previous iterations of the festival that have taken an eclectic approach to the line-up, the focus of this year’s festival will be on emerging North East artists.
Set to headline the acclaimed Saturday night slot is Sunderland indie-rock quartet, Plastic Glass. Synonymous with creating their own distinct atmosphere and style, fans refer to their unique energy as ‘Plakka Glass’ energy. The band are no strangers to headlining, having topped the bills for shows at Newcastle’s Think Tank? and Sunderland’s Independent.
Sunday headliners, tasked with closing the festival in style, are Club Paradise who are known for their melodic prowess and shadowy synths. The foursome from Newcastle are fresh from selling out their biggest hometown gig to date at Cobalt Studios and look set to carry the momentum, gathered from supporting Kashmere at a sell-out Manchester gig, into their closing slot at Munro Festival. Other acts announced so far include Trunky Juno, due to play on the Saturday, and BigFatBig, Marketplace, Swears and MoonWax, all set to play the Sunday.
Organisers will be hoping the artists on show have all the vigour and personality to captivate the audience that, for the first time in the festival’s history, will be watching on from a seated perspective.
This year’s festival, as aforementioned, will be COVID-friendly. As well as the seated audience, the festival will have dedicated hand-sanitation stations and extra ventilation within the venue.
Adam Gallagher, in charge of everything Munro Festival related, is eager for the festival to make its long-anticipated return. He said: “I can’t wait for the doors to just re-open. It’s been put back that many times, it’ll be a great feeling when it’s finally back up and running”.
The full line-up includes Plastic Glass, Komparrison, Lottie Willis, Trunk Juno and Twist Helix on the Saturday and Club Paradise, BigFatBig, Marketplace, Nadedja and Swears on the Sunday.
The festival is scheduled to take place over two days, on Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th June.
Tickets for either day cost £10.00, with weekend tickets priced at £15.00.
Doors open at 6pm, and attendees should arrive wearing a face mask.
