As the weather gets gradually warmer and the beating footsteps and warm pints of festival season approach quickly round the corner, MUNRO Festival is set to start the sunny festivities off with a bang.
Running since 2018, MUNRO has been a great place to showcase a lot of local and not so local talent, with some bigger names headlining previous events including The K’s, The Lottery Winners, Plastic Glass and Club Paradise, to name just a few.
This year’s festival is an all-day affair, with music taking place across three stages over two different venues in Stockton-on-Tees (The Green Room and The Georgian Theatre).
This year, the festival will be headlined by Red Rum Club, a huge, new indie-pop band from Liverpool who liven crowds up with their western-inspired trumpets and upbeat tunes, with mail support coming from Cruel Hearts Club, a gritty yet glamorous girl band with hearts full of raw punk-rock energy.
Also announced for this year’s line-up is Newcastle-based Holly Rees, an artist known for her ‘fast but not necessarily happy’ songs about being gay; Motel Carnation, an incredible electronic-indie three-piece hailing from ‘the toon’; Scottish five-piece The Rah’s, who are known for their ‘real music’ of indie rock ’n’ roll, wonderful Welsh singer-songwriter Megan Wyn, armed with a guitar and touring with some of the biggest upcoming names in the indie scene, and many more.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, it can still be difficult to weigh up the risk versus reward of live shows, but MUNRO organiser Adam Gallagher assures us that the ultimate time and effort has gone into making it as safe as possible: “After a socially-distanced festival in 2021, it is great to have MUNRO back to full capacity and with no restrictions in place. It is an incredibly exciting line-up for 2022. I am also proud to say that I am working with the venues to collaboratively advise ticket buyers to still be as safe as possible, including testing before attending the festival and sanitising hands as often as they can whilst in the venue.”
With some artists yet to be announced at the time of writing, MUNRO Festival will be an absolutely incredible day out with lots of fantastic up-and-coming grassroots artists to check out.
Events like these are fantastic for catching a popular local or not-so-local artist just at the point before national fame, so make sure you don’t miss it.
