In what will be NE Volume’s first promoted gig of 2019, we’re proud to announce that we’ll be bringing three North East artists to Little Buildings in Newcastle this month in what’s set to be a show not to be missed by fans of indie, dark-pop, or post-punk.
Now, those eagle-eyed among you will have noticed that our December edition always highlights the ‘Top 10 North East Bands to See Live That Year’ – and Ghost//Signals were number one on that list so, of course, we had to book them.
This Newcastle/Sunderland-based indie/dark-pop outfit, fronted by the charismatic Rick Lanning, certainly have what it takes to create the ultimate post-punk/indie-pop anthem. They played the likes of Evo Emerging 2018 and the main stage at Lindisfarne Festival so we were keen to book them as soon as possible.
The band’s sound has developed over the years, especially since moving from a three-piece to a four-piece, with the sense of melody and creativity adding an extra dimension to their sound. Sonically, their sound is full-on and has become increasingly urgent whilst still retaining the chime/melancholic platform that the band was originally built on.
Influenced by the likes of Joy Division, Interpol and Bloc Party, they’ve been compared to early The Cure, The Cribs and even Pulp.
North East indie-pop and rock outfit, Echolines, have a sound that is immediately accessible and yet a little indescribable. At times, the sound smacks you in the face and at others, it swirls up into a storm of their version of classic 80s-influenced indie. Their live shows are always delivered with passion, enthusiasm and energy – and no covers.
Goth-pan/Darkwave outfit, Holy Braille, must be seen live to be believed. Their high-octane, punk, electronic, demonic darkwave sound is like nothing else coming out of the North East at the moment.
In terms of the venue itself, it’s amazing how quickly Little Buildings in Newcastle has become the beating heart of the live music landscape of the North East. The venue may be closing in early April (you may have seen our feature in our December edition), but the owners have managed to, thankfully, find a new home on Warwick Street.
