Get ready for an electrifying evening of folk-rock mayhem when Driven Serious host their seventh annual Folkish Explosion at The Cluny in Newcastle on Saturday 3rd May.
Driven Serious are no strangers to the folk-rock scene. Having recently released their second album after over a decade of performing, the band has gained a reputation for their high-energy live shows. Their music, described as a vibrant mix of folk-rock, echoes the energy of influential bands like The Levellers and The Waterboys. Their new album, ‘Look On These Works’, has been widely praised for its monumental string arrangements and impactful war-like drums.
Joining Driven Serious on stage will be the Jon Palmer Acoustic Band, renowned for their unique blend of folk, roots, and rock & roll. Their sound has been described as a cross between The Pogues and Bruce Springsteen’s Seeger Session Band, with a touch of The Waterboys and Saw Doctors. Leeds Music Scene raved about the band’s performance, calling it “spellbinding.” Jon Palmer, the band’s frontman, is a former winner of the Grolsch UK Songwriter of the Year and a published songwriter with Sony, adding an extra layer of credibility to their performance.
The night will also feature Ceejay and The Misfits, led by the dynamic Ceejay, whose punk-infused urban folk is sure to captivate the crowd. Drawing influence from The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eminem, Jack White, and Bob Marley, Ceejay’s powerful storytelling, based on his life experiences growing up in Scotland, will provide a raw and energetic performance.
Rounding out the bill is A.J. Potter, whose folk, blues, and country fusion will bring a more soulful vibe to the evening. His deeply personal lyrics and catchy melodies offer a unique glimpse into his real-life experiences, making his set a moving addition to the night.
With such a diverse and talented line-up, the Folkish Explosion promises to be a night full of passion, energy, and unforgettable music. Don’t miss out on this incredible event at The Cluny – a true celebration of the folk-rock scene.
