If you’re into punk-powered pop energy with a cheeky edge, then Voodoo Radio are a duo you won’t want to miss at The Cluny 2 on Friday 20th March. Known for their fast, fun sound and no-frills performances, Paige and Tony bring a high-octane charm that makes their shows impossible to forget.
Paige handles vocals and drums while Tony shreds on guitar, and somehow the two of them manage to fill the room with a massive sound. Their songs are short, mischievous bursts packed with hooks, attitude and just enough chaos to make you smile long after the final note fades.
Their story is as lively as their music. The band began in 2018 when Tony encouraged his daughter Paige to experiment with rhythm and vocals at home. As he recalls: “Get two shoe boxes, anything that’s like a drumstick, a table knife and a wooden spoon, and see if you can sing and play rhythms whilst hitting a beat.” That playful challenge sparked the beginning of Voodoo Radio. Before long, they were performing in London’s Leicester Square Underground, turning heads and catching the attention of commuters and tourists alike.
Their debut mini-album, ‘Pop Pills’, was released in 2022 on Holy Dotage Records. Eight short, punchy tracks, each clocking in at around two and a half minutes, perfectly capture the band’s energetic and unpretentious style. Since then, they have been steadily building momentum on the UK live circuit, earning BBC Radio 6 airplay, festival appearances at Kendal Calling, and support slots for established acts such as Big Country and The Skids.
Recent releases show the duo continuing to grow creatively, blending humour, bite and clever lyricism without losing the immediacy that makes them so thrilling live. On stage, they are loud, lively and unapologetically themselves – and the chemistry between Paige and Tony is unmistakable.
For anyone in Newcastle, this show is a chance to see why Voodoo Radio are turning heads across the UK. With a strong DIY spirit, infectious energy and songs that hit hard in just a few minutes, they prove that you don’t need a big line-up to make a big impact. Bring your dancing shoes – you’ll want to move.
Tickets, priced at £10.00 in advance, are available at thecluny.com.
