Renowned Hartlepool music venue, The Studio, will be hosting a special, intimate performance with Manchester singer-songwriter Toria Wooff on Friday 10th November.
The style of Toria’s music is enchanting. While she applies very soft and mellow, dramatic vocals to her music, she also encourages a heartfelt amount of poetic lyricism into her songs which paints a picture as she displays her vocal talent. Her sound is influenced by ‘70s singers such as Nick Drake or even late ’60s/early ‘70s era David Bowie. She also has a similar singing style to singer Hope Salvidore from the ‘90s alt-shoegaze band, Mazzy Star.
Her sweet folk sound with the haunting vocal melodies and lyrics she produces is mesmerizing as she continuously maintains a whimsical element of wonder and curiosity in her music that wouldn’t sound out of place in an early ‘70s hard rock ballad.
In a sense, you could picture her music like it could be the backdrop to a deep trek through the Scottish highlands on a rainy day – and that seems to be somewhat of intent with Toria Wooff’s vibe as a whole; she has previously stated that her mother has Scottish roots and that seems to be quite a large influence in her work.
Her first EP, released in 2019, was titled ‘Badlands’, and since then, Wooff has produced five singles including her most recent song ‘All I Dream About (Is You)’, which was released on the 18th November last year. Since then, she has been in session with BBC Lanchester and has gained somewhat of a decent-sized cult following.
The venue itself, The Studio in Hartlepool, is a local music venue that is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and has hosted a whole host of up-and-coming artists over the years, including a recent sold-out event with The Lottery Winners.
Also on the night, Wooff will be supported by Hartlepool’s Andy Oliver who released his first single in 2011, entitled ‘Wicked that Rules the World’, and his latest single, ‘You Reached Out for My Hand’, was produced last year.
If you’re a fan of folk music, this is a night you really don’t want to miss.
Tickets, priced at £7.00 in advance, are available from thestudiohartlepool.co.uk.
