Half a year on from the release of their self-titled debut EP, alt-country band Lost Lot return with the raw and cathartic ‘Different Kind Of Heartbreak’.
Heartbreak is one thing, but the sinking, punch-to-the-gut feeling of betrayal by someone you respect and admire is another altogether. Lost Lot summarise this agony perfectly in just three-and-a-half minutes.
Floaty and pensive guitar riffs puncture a hole in the silence at the start of Lost Lot’s latest offering, signifying the excitement and ecstasy of the feelings that come before betrayal.
Vocalist, Matt Dunbar, steps up and leaves everything on the line as the track kicks up a gear; he sings not only for himself, but for you and me too. The repetition of the sung title is a simple and effectively executed trick to show just how angry and hurt the band are.
The raspy and angry guitar solo matches Dunbar well and carries the track into its crescendo.
‘Different Kind Of Heartbreak’ is the musical embodiment of never meeting your heroes.
