The latest single from Newcastle indie-pop group, Palma Louca, is a subdued and intriguing affair.
The atmospheric sound of ‘Us And Them’ is matched by its dark subject matter, revolving around an obsessive infatuation.
The envy-tinged vocals, which are the central focus for much of the track, feed into this idea and are sung with subtlety before briefly increasing in intensity alongside the instrumental during the pre-chorus, and then transitioning into a restrained hook as if building up to an emotional release that refuses to arrive.
The steady drum beats partnered with the bassline provide the track with a good bed that complements the tasteful guitar playing.
‘Us And Them’ is a fine addition to Palma Louca’s catalogue and is sure to pull you in for repeated listens.
