An interactive art installation exploring creativity, collaboration, and community by North-East-based artists and designers Foundation Press will be on show at the BALTIC in Gateshead from Saturday 18th April.
Starting Lines is the first major installation by the North-East-based artists, designers, and educators Adam Phillips and Deborah Bower, who work together under the name Foundation Press. Focused on the North East of England, they have developed initiatives and resources that support people in exploring creativity and storytelling.
The Starting Lines exhibition revolves around eight creative briefs, which have been central to the social practices of Foundation Press over the past ten years. The installation seeks to demonstrate that creativity is accessible to all, offering opportunities for community building and reflection on everyday life.
Throughout the exhibition, Foundation Press will work with schools, community groups, and wider audiences to develop a vibrant and evolving display of artworks, prints, and publications. The installation will also feature a studio space for visitors to engage directly with the work, creating their own responses to the artworks. In addition, a Risograph printing press will be on site, hosting a range of workshops and collaborative projects.
By blending participatory practice with a reflection on creative processes, Starting Lines encourages visitors to consider the role of imagination and storytelling in their own lives. It is both a showcase of Foundation Press’s decade-long practice and a platform for audiences to experiment, collaborate, and contribute to an ever-changing communal artwork.
