Four of the brightest up-and-coming stars of the British comedy scene will be performing new material in Barnard Castle in the run-up to this year’s Edinburgh Festival. Join Louise Young, Matt Bragg, Dan Tiernan and Anth Young for an evening of absolutely cracking comedy.
Having already supported the likes of Alan Carr and Tom Allen on tour, Louise Young is a rising force of UK comedy. Join the Geordie comedian as she performs her new show, ‘Feral’, which explores class, chaos and coming out (she even asked her friends if her life had been feral enough to warrant this title. They laughed and assured her it still is).
Following Louise Young will be Matt Bragg with his debut show ‘Matt Bragg Has Nothing Wrong With Him’. The son of television warm-up man Bobby Bragg, Matt has been performing stand-up all over the country for the last seven years. With a unique low-energy, deadpan style, and meticulously crafted material, he has been gaining critical acclaim from audiences, promoters, and comedians alike, such as Ricky Gervais who noted Bragg’s performance as “Classic observation comedy delivered with effortless style”.
Next up is a work-in-progress show from the winner of both the ‘BBC New Comedian of the Year’ & ‘British Comedian of the Year 2022’, Dan Tiernan. Tiernan has made several television appearances, including on Rosie Jones’s Disability Comedy Extravaganza (Dave), Jokes Only A… Can Tell (Channel 4), Hard Sell (Dave) and more. Expect a high-energy, gag-heavy set based on his weird and chaotic life including being a gay, dyspraxic Mancunian who works in a care home for young asylum seekers.
Anth Young rounds off the impressive bill presenting ‘Family Man’, his first feature-length show, as he prepares to take it on a tour across the UK. The show centres on tales of his life turning upside down, going from a single man living with his parents to becoming a parent himself. Young has previously supported local comedian Carl Hutchinson who said Young is: “A bulletproof act who has exciting potential.”
