Although it may seem rather self-explanatory, the ‘Philly Philly Wang Wang’ tour is the latest tour of British stand-up, Phil Wang.
Having been originally set to reach Newcastle’s Tyne Theatre & Opera House for the 14th of March, back in 2020, the pandemic has meant that Wang’s tour will make its way to Newcastle on Friday 3rd September.
Wang’s dry and self-effacing humour has tackled everything from the universal topics of sex, love and politics, to personal tales of his upbringing, his heritage and his misadventures.
His distinct Wang style has seen him climb the ladders of comedy, becoming an established and regular face on panel shows such as Hypothetical, 8 Out Of 10 Cats and, of course, his notorious season of Taskmaster.
While his hilarious and iconic appearances on shows may have made him a household name, his award-nominated radio sketch show “Daphne Sounds Expensive” and 2018 sell-out tour show that Wang has been carving out a name for himself through hilarious writing and tenacious, cutting routines.
With new shows, such as his BBC Radio 4 series, ‘Wangsplaining’ and his Podcast, “Phil Wang Hates Horror”, the busy comedian is set to go from strength to strength.
The 2021 ‘Philly Philly Wang Wang’ Tour is from his record-breaking sell-out 2019 Edinburgh Fringe run. Having been described as “high-end stand-up with excellent jokes, new perspectives and a distinctive persona”, the tour is set to blur the line between his academic leanings of a Cambridge education and the outright silly facade that we have seen on countless panel shows.
The former Cambridge Footlights President is set to tackle the weighty topics of morality, fame and identity in his latest tour; yet where these daunting themes may feel arduous or overwhelming, Wang intends to address them with levity and humour.
Expect a show loaded with anecdotes, observations, accents and laughs. Aiming to deliver something more thought-provoking than his previous tours, Philly Philly Wang Wang is an opportunity to see a comic pushing and challenging himself in front of a live audience.
Now one of the few comics who can boast that their Edinburgh run sold out before the event had begun, tickets for the acclaimed Philly Philly Wang Wang tour are available at the Tyne Theatre & Opera Houses page, as well as Wang’s own.
Be sure to secure tickets for a hilarious night, hosted by one of Britain’s rising stars, coming to Newcastle on Friday 3rd September.
