Local comedy fans are in for an evening of side-splitting humour as a comedy gala is set to take place in aid of charity next month.
The all-female comedy gala will take place in aid of Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland and will mark this year’s International Women’s Day on Tuesday 8th March.
Taking place at the city’s iconic Tyne Theatre and Opera House, with all money raised from the event going to charity, the amazing line-up will help shine a light on female comedians within the region and the talent the North has to offer.
All comedians taking part in the event have donated their time for free to help raise vital funds for a local charity that provides services to women and girls who live, work or study in Tyneside and Northumberland. They work independently of the local justice system to provide free private and confidential support to women who have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime.
Commenting on the event, Sue Pearce, CEO of Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to raise awareness of sexual violence and a great way of raising much-needed funds to carry on supporting women and girls in Tyneside and Northumberland. We would like to thank the Tyne Theatre and Opera House for supporting us.”
The rare gala event is set to be a massive event for the North East’s cultural calendar, with the comedic line-up specially curated by local comedy Community Interest Company, Felt Nowt, and packed full of local female talent. The line-up includes Lauren Pattison, Louise Young, Rachel Jackson, Katherin Tanney, host Sammy Dobson, as well as many more talented comedians.
Theatre Director, Joanne Johnson, said: “Supporting local comedy talent is an important part of our ethos; it is an honour for the Tyne Theatre and Opera House to host this event which will bring together some of the finest acts the region has to offer in aid of Rape Crisis, a vital organisation whose work is invaluable for the North East. We look forward to yet another evening of laughter in the calendar for 2022.”
