On Tuesday 28th September, the recently reopened Stockton Globe will welcome legendary photographer Ian Wright as he talks an audience through the star-studded gallery of iconic images he built throughout the 1960s at the historic Grade II-listed Art Deco venue.
The former Northern Echo gig photographer will be telling some of the exclusive backstage tales that led to him capturing, previously unseen, images of the global music stars that have performed on the iconic Stockton Globe stage, including The Beatles, The Supremes, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Tom Jones, and Chuck Berry.
Ian will be making the timely return to Stockton Globe, the place where he honed his craft, as it reopens following its spectacular £28 million restoration, to launch his new book Curtain Up: The Globe.
The venue, now operated by Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), flung open its doors for the very first time since 1975 earlier this month as much-loved British pop act McFly performed a special show for the launch.
Born in Darlington, Ian Wright’s 50-year career as a photo journalist began at age 14 when he entered and won the bronze award for photography in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards Scheme for students.
Just a year later, Ian got a job at The Northern Echo where he was given the opportunity to cover the emerging pop music groups for a new weekly supplement, The Teenage Special.
Throughout The Swinging ‘60s, Ian photographed a who’s who of emerging icons at Stockton Globe before going on to work at The Sunday Times in London.
His incredible photography then led to him working in The Times’ New York office, as well as with BBC Radio Times.
