‘Some rivers have rights, this one has riots, and taught us post-trauma-growth is possible’, so states Live Theatre artistic associate gobscure about the afon Wysg (River Usk). Their celebration of the river, ‘You Have Already Survived’, is both a solo theatre show and an accompanying art exhibition.
The show tells the story of travelling ‘upstream from Britain’s last insurrection to date, asking what’s love in your language, realising unicorns are real (if extinct), attending their first punk gig as a teen in defiance of sick-chiatry, and finally discovering wider horizons.’
The accompanying exhibition features large poetry banners, craft paper flowers and a paper bird (inspired by Welsh poppies and curlews), among other works of art.
Both the theatre show and exhibition have been described by The NewBridge Project as a truly remarkable work that forges a deep connection with those who experience it, with art that always brings love, hope and thoughtfulness.
The exhibition runs at ARC, Stockton, from now until Friday 30th May, while the theatre show is performed on Friday 6th May, as part of the official exhibition launch.
